On Mother's Day, I can reflect on what a unique and special person my mom was. She was born in 1916 in
Paris, ON and was one of 8 children. Her career included two stints teaching high school - 1941-1952 as
well as teaching English at Aldershot High School from 1967-1981. She went back to teaching at
Aldershot to take the financial pressure off my dad as he had a major heart attack in 1966. She also
worked in HR for an insurance company in Toronto and for a period was a stay at home mom. After
retirement, she spent much time making a difference with the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Burlington,
played the piano at Canadian Club meetings and along with my dad, founded the Halton Aphasia Centre.
My mom was upbeat and energetic who inspired me with the quote "A Man's Reach should exceed his
grasp or what's a heaven for." - Robert Browning. |
